This is a terrifying possibility.
Right now the U.S. government is working to topple a regime that does just this sort of thing, all under the guise of “freedom for the people”. And here we are, trying to take away that very freedom.

I complained about police doing nothing about downtown crime and drugs being sold off my front lawn by teens in swilling beer in lawn chairs all hours in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, in newspapers.
I then proposed Civilian Oversight of Police with Quality Control Questionnaires going out to those that need police protection and service.
I was arrested and put in prison when a police informant encouraged to harass me out of town jumped me in my dark driveway after stalking, threatening, and trying to rob me, by defending myself with pepper spray.
He was given immunity to prosecute me and self-defence is not legal in Connecticut.
